Sample Itineraries for Camping Safari with Walking opportunities

3 days Loita Plains and Masai Mara


 
Day 1: Drive from Nairobi via the Maasai town of Ewaso Ngiro for lunch and colourful market visit. Then into the bush to Olonganaiyo, a small Maasai homestead ("boma") for insights into their fascinating culture and way of life.

Day 2: Optional 2-3 hour walking safari along small river course and through the savanna for wildlife viewing with the Maasai as guides and interpreters of their lands. You can take a refreshing dip in a swimming hole and walk amongst giraffe, impala, zebra and wildebeest. Drive to our secluded camp in the Masai Mara and afternoon game drive.

Day 3: After breakfast do a morning hike to the summit of the Naunare hills guided by a local Maasai warrior. Desend back to our camp for lunch then drive back to Nairobi.

4 Days Mt Kenya/Samburu Holiday Adventure

A balanced study of forest, mountain, semi-arid and aquatic ecosystems. From the central mountain region, the trip extends to Samburu in northern Kenya where we see lots of game and birds but also meet the local Samburu people and learn about their pastoralist way of life.

 
Day 1: Transfer from Nairobi to Bantu Mountain Lodge, a unique country resort located in the heart of Mount Kenya forest.

Day 2: After breakfast drive to Samburu via Sweetwaters Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 3: Whole day on game drives.

5 - 7 DAYS WALKING SAFARIS Down the NGURUMAN ESCARPMENT
Trekking with Masai warriors and their donkeys down one of the deepest Rift Valley drops. Incorporates 2 day gamedrive in Masai Mara with 5 days of exhilararting but strenous Walk through Masai territory accompanied by Masai guides and their donkeys (the Masai Mara sector can be conviniently skipped if client are interested in walking alone). The guides lead donkeys which carry all trips supplies. An enriching experience of remarkably spectacular scenery and the unique Masai culture, with added opportunities for game viewing drives before the wilderness trek. Suitable for fit adults and teenagers over 16 yrs old who are experienced in wilderness treking. 5 DAYS WALKING SAFARIS ACROSS THE CHYULU HILLS WILDERNESS TREK
This program incorporates a bush trek in the remote Chyulu hills followed by a visit to the sprawling Tsavo Park with your guides ensuring that you do not get to miss out on the wildlife spectacle. As you trek in the hills and bush, you see plenty of interesting features-mountains, volcanic formations, caves, etc and also learn about the flora and fauna of the area. Khat, a plant with intoxicating powers grows wild in the area and is of immense economic benefit to the local people. Tsavo is best aknown for the notorious late 19th Century "man-eaters of Tsavo" the lions that fed on Indian railway builders but later hunted down.
