Mount Kilimanjaro

(Itineraries)

7 days Kilimanjaro trek via Rongai Route

The Rongai route ascents Kilimanjaro from the northeastern side of the mountain and is normally accessed from Kenyan through the Loitokitok boarder crossing into Tanzania. It offers a unique and quality traverse of Kilimanjaro, approaching the peak by a remote track on the Kenyan side of the massif and reaching the summit (5896m) via the high altitude desert of the "Saddle" then descending on the Tanzania side through the Mweka trail. This route retains a sense of unspoiled wilderness and offers a totally different perspective of Kilimanjaro. Rongai Route is also apparently the easiest Mount Kilimanjaro trekking option with fairly gentle gradients and shorter daily trekking phases. (More)

7 Days Trekking via MACHAME ROUTE

This is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals. Where accommodation on the Marangu route is in huts, the Machame route offers strictly tents only. This makes Machame (also referred to as the "Whiskey route") better suited to the slightly more adventurous hiker, however rewarding him with a scenic splendor such as not seen on the Marangu route. From late afternoon sunsets at Shira, to the misty revelations of Kibo at the great Barranco Wall, the Machame route offers the adventurous hiker a stunning scenic "slide show" over 6 days. 5 - 6 days via MARANGU ROUTE

Fondly referred to as the "Coca-Cola route", Marangu is still the most popular route on Kilimanjaro. This is partly as a result of being the only route on Kilimanjaro according trekkers relative luxury of sleeping in huts along the entire route as well as the possibility to accomplish the route in 5 days, (nonetheless, this shorter trekking itinerary available on this route is not always the best option due to insufficient acclimatisation before the summit attempt). However though, there is a possibility to spend an optional extra day to acclimatise at an altitude of 3720m to enhance the chance for a successful summit attempt. (More)

7 Days LEMOSHO or 8 days LONDOROSI (SHIRA) ROUTE

Shira approach route is separately referred to as Lemosho or Londorosi depending on the village trail one uses to get to Shira. Lemosho approach route is a longer alternate trail to Londorosi but the two trails soon meet at the Shira (1) camp and become one. From the drop-off point on Lemosho route, one requires 2 days to reach Shira (1) camp while it takes a few hours to get to the same camp using the Londorosi (Shira) route. This makes the Lemosho trail a favourite for trekkers with more time and those seeking for better acclimatisation. (More)
