| Detailed Day by Day itinerary
Day 1:
Depart at 1000hrs to be transferred to Sirimon Park gate. (Clients traveling from Nairobi should arrive at the lodge latest 1300hrs for a quick lunch and onward transfer to the Park gate). From here, hike through montane forest, bamboo and rosewood up to the OldMoses Hut, gaining an elevation range of 700m in 3-4 hours. Day 2:
Gradual hike through the desolate savannah, avoiding the normal direct trail leading to Shiptons and following the one that goes up to Likii North (3990m), where you spend the night in a tent. Hiking time is about 4 hours, gaining 700m in altitude. There will be ample time this afternoon to recuperate or walk around the Likii valley for more acclimatization. Day 3:
Emerging from Likii valley, climb and pass over a ridge to enter on a steep descent into the picturesque Mackinder Valley where you join to the normal route from the Old Moses camp. You arrive at Shiptons camp for hot lunch after a 4 hour trek. Day 4:
Leave the camp at 0300hrs and hike up the steep scree slopes and across rocks up to Point Lenana (4985m), the hikers' summit, gaining 785m in altitude in 3-4 hours. Later descend back to Shipton's camp for breakfast then relax for the rest of the day. Day 5:
Descend to Sirimon Park gate to connect with a transfer vehicle for the base hotel for a hot shower. The rest of the afternoon at leisure. Tip:
An additional rest day is recommended at Shiptons for hikers who wish to acclimatize more or recuperate better before attempting the summit. This day would be spent walking around the camp and peak region. Alternatively, trekkers could do a 4-5 hours peak circuiting hike through Hausberg col (4700m) up to the American camp (4,350m) where they would spend the night in tents and attempt the summit on the following morning.
