Easy Walking Safari Northern Circuit – (Ideal for Family groups.)

An equally exciting programme with sizeable easy walking opportunities in memorable destinations of northern Kenya. We combine leisurely walks, game viewing safaris and interactions with the local people to give the client the full picture of Kenya. Our fist stop is at the Aberdares national park for wildlife viewing and visits of the various waterfalls. Next is Mountain Rock lodge at the base of Mt. Kenya where you will meet the local Kikuyu people and visit the Sweetwaters game sanctuary. Finally you will visit the Samburu country for opportunities of further walking, game viewing and interactions with these nomads of northern Kenya.

Day 1: Depart from Nairobi to the Aberdares National park via Mutubio gate. This is one of the most pristine and less visited national parks in Kenya. This park hosts the third highest mountain range in Kenya, rising up to 4001m above sea level. With its spectacular waterfalls, lichen-hung forests, churning pools and trout-filled streams, this park is a haven for wilderness lovers, hikers, mountain climbers and walkers alike. Elephants could be seen roaming this forested park as well as other animals like buffalo, giant forest hog, duiker, bushbuck, black rhino, leopard, serval cat, among others. Elands occur on the open moorlands. Bird life is abundant and varied as well as different floral species. You visit some of the spectacular waterfalls that are a hallmark feature of this park Overnight at Kiandogoro campsite inside the park.

Day 2: Morning game drive around the Salient area of the park to see some of the big game of the Aberdare national park. After lunch you will visit some of the spectacular waterfalls that are a hallmark feature of this park. Later you drive to Mountain Rock Lodge. Mountain Rock Lodge is a comfortable country-style resort nestled in the forested slopes of Mt. Kenya. After Lunch you have the option of walking or taking a horse ride to the Mau Mau caves, a hideout of the pre-independence local warriors who resisted the British rule in Kenya. Overnight at Mountain Rock Lodge.

Day 3: Day trip to the Sweetwaters game sanctuary for game drives and observation of the Chimpanzees. Sweetwaters game sanctuary is home to the endangered chimpanzees that are rescued from the war torn Great Lakes region. This is through a project founded by Jane Goodall Institute. It is also a sanctuary to the endangered rhinos as well as other animal species. Later in the evening you return back to Mountain Rock Lodge for overnight.

Day 4: Early morning visit the local Kikuyu farmlands and homesteads to get close perceptions of the way of life of Bantu speaking people inhabiting the slopes of Mt. Kenya. The visits are coupled with nature walks in the Mt. Kenya forest reserve to learn about the medicinal plants and look out for the black and white colobus monkeys. Later depart to Samburu National Reserve. Samburu national reserve is a semi arid ecosystem that teems with a host of wildlife endemic to the northern part of Kenya chief among them being the reticulated giraffe, the grevy zebra, the Oryx, the Somali ostrich, and the gazelle with the longest neck called the gerenuk, the vulturine guinea fowl among others. Apart from the above species, elephants, buffaloes, gazelles, crocodiles, impalas and dik-diks are seen in plenty as well as the elusive lions, cheetahs and leopard. On arrival you proceed for an evening game drive. Overnight at Umoja Community Bandas.

Day 5: Full day of game drives in Samburu National Reserve where our expert guides and drivers will take you to different locations of Samburu and the nearby Buffalo Springs reserves where you will have spectacular chances of spotting wildlife. You break off during the midday heat for lunch. After lunch you may visit a nearby lodge for a refreshing swim (Optional) Later you go for an evening game drive on your way out of the reserve. Overnight at Umoja Community Bandas.

Day 6: Day trip to Namunyak Conservation Trust where you will hike led by Samburu guides. You start the hike from the base camp up the steep slope through the high altitude forest comprising of acacia trees, pencil cedar, cycad palms and podo carpus. From time to time you may come across temporary shelters of the Samburu herdsmen who trek uphill with their animals in search for pastures.
