Our Treks and SAFARIS

the 7 Days Road Safari

The ultimate wildlife experience with Mountain Rock...
A balanced wildlife tour going through forest, semi-arid, aquatic and savannah ecosystems. From the central mountain region, the trip extends to Samburu in northern Kenya where we see lots of game and birds but also a chance to meet the local Samburu. We then descend to the Great Rift Valley where we see the beautiful flamingos plus a spectacle of other birds and wildlife and finally visit the world
famous Masai Mara.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: We depart from Nairobi at 9.00 am to drive through farmlands of central province seeing coffee, tea and pineapple plantations on our way to our very own Mountain Rock Lodge for a lunch stopover. After a short rest we continue with our northwards journey to Samburu National Park. Birdlife is abundant and of note is the Orange-bellied Parrots. The parrots are noisy but sometimes quite shy so you usually hear them before you can see them. Brown or Meyer's parrot can also be seen. Samburu is noted for the presence of both the Common Zebra and the far more rare Grevy's Zebra. It's also home to Gerenuk, Beisa Oryx, Reticulated Giraffe and a lot of crocodiles. After a late afternoon game drive in the park we retire to a bush camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: After breakfast we take another gamedrive in the Samburu National Reserve then return back to the camp for lunch before proceeding to Mount Kenya region. As we drive we are enjoy the magnificent views of the slopes of Mount Kenya and the major peaks. We arrive at Mountain Rock Lodge on the forested slopes of Mt. Kenya just in time for a nice hot shower and dinner in the lodge’s restaurant. Overnight at the lodge in standard self contained rooms.

Day 3: After breakfast a galore of activities await us. For the hiking enthusiasts we go on a exciting nature/historical hike to Mau Mau caves the former hideout the Mau Mau freedom fighters. The hike takes us deeper into the forest and our accompanying naturalist guide tells us about the medicinal values of various indigenous trees and shrubs. Those who remain at the lodge can take up various activities including fishing, boating, horseriding among others. We congregate back at the lodge's dining hall for a buffet lunch and then shortly afterwards board our vehicles for the journey into Rift Valley. Our ride includes a stopover at Thompson Falls - Nyahururu and ends up Lake Elementaita bungalows on the shows of the lake. It is evenning so we are show to watch the magnificent sundowner caused by the reflection of the descending sun as it casts it's light on the lake dotted by flamingoes and pelicans. Dinner and overnight at Lake Elementaita Bungalows.

Apart from the herds of huge hippos we can't help and notice the many species of birdlife. We take an exciting motorboat ride to the secluded Crescent Island in the middle of the lake. After the boatride we drive via Narok with a lunch stopover arriving in the reknowned Masai Mara Game reserve for a p.m game drive. Wildlife checklist in Masai Mara includes elephant, buffalo, lion, rhino, cheetah, leopard, zebra, giraffe, hippo, crocodiles and a spectrum of other animals and birds. We leave the park in the evening and drive a short distance to our permanent tent semi-luxury camp called Mara Springs Safari Camp.

Day 5: After breakfast we carry packed lunch for a full days game drive in the Masai Mara. Masai Mara game reserve is taunted as the new Seventh wonder of the world - because of the spectacular wildbeeste migration taking place there every year. The thousands of wildbeeste crossover from the Serengeti in the company of many zebras and other herbivores causing a feeding fiesta to the predatory cats in the plains and crocodiles during the crossing of the Mara River. Our driver and guide have many experience in spotting the wildlife and we get to most of them. Overnight again in our permanent tented safari camp (beds with en-suite).
