Our Treks and SAFARIS

7 Days Journey of discovery

Day 1: We leave Nairobi with our packed lunch and drive via Narok to a Maasai homestead in Olenganaiyo.

We interact closely with the inhibitant of this small Maasai village - having a first hand feel of there day-to-day life.

Our camp is in bush just a short distance from the village. After we set up camp we talk a walk in the bush (late afternoon) to end up the Maasai village where we are treated to traditional and cultural activities. We later return to camp for dinner and campfire spiced with folklore of our host community.

Day 2: After breakfast we talk a rare walk in the Loita plainsin the midst of giraffe, impala, zebra and wildebeest while enjoying the magical rolling hills and plains of Loita Hills. In our team we have a naturalist guide joined by Maasai warriors who give us insightful information about the flora and fauna. Occasionally if our group is big enough we organise a soccer game involving the villagers at the local school. We are then picked by our sturdy safari vehicles which also carry our luggage for the journey into Masai Mara Springs Safari Camp ( Mid-range to Luxury tented camp) for lunch. After a short rest we drive into Masai Mara game reserve for a game drive. This wildlife reservation has been dubbed the new Seventh wonder of the world for spectacular annual wildebeeste migration which takes place between the end of July and October. We overnight at our Mara Springs Camp in en-suite tents.

Day 3: After breakfast led by our naturalist guide together with Maasai warriors and our naturalist guide we do an early morning trek up the Naunare Hills (overlooking our camp). We might meet with all kinds of wildlife on our trek as we are in their dispersal area - but our Maasai Warriors ensure we are not at risk. The walk is exciting as well as informative as we get to learn about the various plants and shrubs and their use (some medicinal) in the day to day life of our host community. After summiting Naunare Hills we descend back to the camp to meet with our vehicles andd carry packed lunch and head again into Mara Game Reserve for another wildlife viewing session. In the park we watchout for lions, elephants, buffaloes, hartebeest, wildebeest, topi, eland, impala, gazelles, black rhino (rare), giraffe, zebra, waterbuck, hippopotamus, crocodile, leopard, cheetah, hyena, jackals and a plethora of birdlife. Our driver has many years of experience in Masai Mara and with the help of RF radio communication is able to find where the various wildlife species are resting or hunting. A naturalist guide also soughts to expound ourknowledge of the various species. We take a picnic lunch break at Hippo point off the banks of Mara River. Overnight and dinner at our Mara Springs Safari Camp.

Day 4: On this day we wake up early and after just a cup of tea or coffee have a early morning game drive in the Masai Mara with a two prong purpose - to see any wildlife we might have missed thus far and also specifically the early morning birds. For bird watchers this is the best chance to see species that include the secretary birds, eagles, vultures, marabou, ostrich, turaco, guinea fowls, bastards, cranes, and many more. In the late morning we return to our camp for brunch then depart for Lake Naivasha carrying a light box of snacks/meal arriving in time for a guided walk at the Hells Gate National park. Hellsgate is one of the few parks you can be allowed to walk in because it does not host the big cat predators. We can also on prior arrangements have a wild bike trek in this park. We also visit the spectacular gorges made from volcanic formations, geysers and hot springs. After an exciting hike we drive a short distance to Lake Elementaita Bandas for a well deserved sundowner overlooking the lake - while reflecting on our days adventures. Dinner and overnight is at the Bandas.

However how sojourn here is to sample the majestic waterfalls and scenery on foot. Later we do a game drive through the forested salient section of the park adored by an ark full of highland adopted wildlife that include leopards, elephants, bushbucks, buffaloes, forest hogs, the rare Bongo among others. The trek takes three hours and we return to our lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon we take off towards Sweetwaters Ranch via the Equator line crossing. Sweetwaters is a Chimpanzee Sanctuary which also hosts a lot of other herbivores. This is a nice opportunity to seet them at close quarters. Dinner and Overnight at Mountain Rock Lodge.

Day 7: After breakfast go on a cultural walk through the nearby Kikuyu villages. We visit one Kikuyu homestead to learn more on their cultural practices and contrast this with the Maasai one we experienced earlier. We return to the Lodge through the forest reserve and get a chance to learn about medicinal plants found in the forest and see the rare/shy colobus monkeys living high up in the canopy of the forest vegetation.
